bearing on my 01 ford escort zx2zeeker_12 08-02-2008, 11:37 PM i seem to be replacing my passenger side rear bearing all the time im not sure what the problem is. i just recived the book to see what the torqu valu was and still the bearing went bad . the next step i took was to buy a new torqu wrench to see if that was the problem but that didnt seem to work. what is the problem....... thanks zeeker_12 rhandwor 08-04-2008, 07:35 AM If your putting a quality bearing correctly I would check this tire carefully. A tire badly out of balance or out of alignment puts a terrific amount of stress on the bearing. AzTumbleweed 08-04-2008, 11:51 AM Maybe the spindle is bent or out of alignment. Arnoldtheskier 08-04-2008, 12:45 PM If your putting a quality bearing correctly I would check this tire carefully. A tire badly out of balance or out of alignment puts a terrific amount of stress on the bearing. Check for a bent rim, belt shift too. If this was my car and had eaten a few r bearings..for no good reason..I would not be going through that again. I would head down the following road and NOT STOP until I found the culprit. I'l do a 4 whl alignment, pull off both sides, do a thorough check of everything, chg both bearings, make sure both r brakes are not dragging and put 2 new tires on it. I hate doing stuff over and over... Davescort97 08-06-2008, 04:26 AM First off I would jack up the back and spin the wheel to see if the spindle or wheel is bent. If not bent, I would drive it for 10 minutes or so and then feel the rotor for excess heat. If it is hot to touch the caliper is too tight on the rotor. Take the plug out of the back of the caliper and turn the adjustment gear counterclockwise to loosen the caliper until the brake pads just touch then back it off 1/3 turn more. The spindle may be scored due to the bad bearings you have had to replace on that side. It is reccomended that the spindle be replaced whenever the bearing is replaced. If the bearing is rough or noisy you should replace the spindle, too. This is per the Zx2 shop manual. I think this will solve your problem. Last of all, are you staking the nut with a round punch after torqing the nut 130 to 170 lbs? zeeker_12 08-08-2008, 08:17 PM thanks everyone for tha advice . i was also thinking of changing the spindal myself, but was wondering if there was somthing i was missing before i spent the money on it. thanks again zeeker_12 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
