1998 Ford Escort stalling. Wifes descriptionggarciatx 07-31-2008, 10:46 AM "I start up the car, move out of the drive way and the car starts to hesitate. I press the gas but no reving is heard, it moves just a few feet. It will travel maybe a few feet or blocks depending and then I have to pull to the side and turn it off to restart it. When I turn the car off, I can hear a gurgling sound in the fuel tanks like it is emptying a lot of liquid or something. I restart it and sometimes it will fix the problem but other times I have to continue doing it until it gets going. Once the car gets going at full speed, it doesn’t turn off and I don’t hear the same gurgling sound once it gets going. Also, when the car reaches a stop or slows down it tends to die. I can press the gas pedal down all the way and cant get past 20MPH, but after a couple of blocks, it seems to "warm" up and then runs normally." I checked her car and it does exhibit all the symptoms. I think it might be the gas pump. what do you all thiink? Thanks Gabe mightymoose_22 07-31-2008, 03:18 PM I would say that you are on the right track. Without starting the car, turn the key on and listen for the fuel rail pump to check if it is working. If you can hear it, check on the pump in the gas tank which is accessed through the back seat. Also check that your fuel filter is not plugged up. It seems to be a fuel delivery problem and there are only a few components between the tank and the engine, so check them out. Davescort97 08-02-2008, 03:27 AM I believe your year of Escort has a fuel return line on the fuel rail. ThIs could be the gurgling sound you hear. If the fuel pressure sensor is bad it will give all the symptoms of a bad pump. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
