Okay, my husband finally after two weeks completed installing a new intake manifold gasket on my 1999 Yukon SLT. Now, with everything back they way it was when we turn over the car it turns over 2-3 times then does this clicking sound. We checked the battery cable connections and they appear and feel snug, clean connections. We have lights and when trying to start the vehicle the lights dim but do not go off. We tried jump starting it thinking it was a low battery that did not work. My husband went through and double checked all connections AGAIN and everything is connected. What could it be? Did my starter die the same time I blew this gasket? Is my battery totaly wasted? (The date on the sticker say A04.)
At this point this job has cost us around $1100.00 :disappoin because my husband did not want to pay a mechanic.:banghead:

I don't think you saved any money at $1100, must have had other works or parts? Take the battery out and have it tested, basic diagnostics.

you might try checking the voltage acrossed the battery as you try and start it. it shouldn't drop below I believe 9V when you turn turn the switch, 12 normally. also check to see if their are any voltage drops acrossed the connections. if there is, it should be minimal (<1v)

the fact that the lights dim says that everything looks like it is connected,
and that it is pulling a load.

in order for the starter to turn over it needs to recieve a number of amps at 12 V. from the work you had done, tend to believe its either a bad battery or a bad connection.
