I believe it has a 4l60 the truck drives 1-2 gear but in drive or overdrive it just slips and the moter just revs after 2nd. But if i put it in 2nd manually it drives to about 45. could this be a solenoid problem not letting it shift into overdrive?

Welcome to AF.

If you can actually feel the trans shifting into 3 or OD then slipping, the trans is probably shifting correctly, but there is likely either a fault in the hydraulic system, seals or clutches that is causing the slipping.
Transmissions can start slipping for any number of reasons. Unfortunately most require removal and disassembly of the trans to fix. At that point, you may as well go for a full transmission rebuild.

There is a small chance that a fluid and filter change can fix the problem. If you like to gamble, try dropping the pan, clean it out, and refill the trans with fresh fluid. Then, before starting the engine, disconnect the transmission cooler line, where it goes into the radiator. Start the engine and let it run until clean fluid comes out this line. You may have to fill the transmission up with fluid again during this process.

This change may help because occasionally slipping and trans whining noises are caused by a blocked transmission filter. The change sometimes works; it's a lot cheaper than a full rebuild so sometimes its worth the risk to try. However, if the trans has been slipping quite a bit, the clutch packs may be toast anyways, so a full rebuild is eventually required.

I have a turbo 400 that I took out of my 81 chevy 2wd short bed. I know this should bolt up to the 5.7 in my 94, But would everything else hook up and run properly going from 2wd to 4wd?
