1st time i have had this problem, The key in the ignition will not come out, i havent run into this problem anywhere else.... By not come out i mean i cant get the key out of the run position (i can start it) but i cant turn the car off with out disconnecting the positive battery cable, i dont like doing this for several reasons 1. im worried about a voltage spike 2. its a pain in the butt 3 it looks like im trying to steal a car everytime i need to go somewhere that i cant get to on the atv

any idea whats wrong? (with the lock tumbler(

any idea how to fix (easy)

and how the heck do i get the sterring wheel off?

thanks!

If the key returns to the off position and it continues to run, usually the ign switch is bad or the rack/rod on the cylinder came loose or is out of adjustment. Good pics and break down at autozone.com, repair guides.

Check the finger and sector assembly in the steering column. Evidently, the PARK gate is not open for the ignition lock cylinder finger to return to the LOCK position:

Can you shut the engine off in the NEUTRAL position?

This might also help:

wow thanks! that helps.... no the key will not turn when in neutral (where did u get those diagrams? do you have a paypal account so i can send you something for your time (dont have the cash right now but in a week or so...) also how do i get the steering wheel off? i have gotten the airbag off and i have removed the large nut in the middle but... i cant remove the steering wheel

edit.... IF it helps at all the steering wheel is not locked i can turn it freely and with the battery connected it wont shift unless i put the break on so that is working the way its supposed to

You need a wheel puller, based on your questions here I would suggest you may need some experienced help with this.
