Greetings forum members! I've got some questions about general crystler drivetrain compatibility in the K-car platform in search to a solution to a problem outlined here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=914396
Its quite the sob story, especially with the pictures showing such a lovely car displaying the clear signs of having fallen into disuse, but the long and short of it is that we have an '86 Lebaron turbo with a locked up engine. None of us interested in fixing the car are terribly well-versed with the Crystler K car platform and its associated drivetrains other than they borrowed very heavily from Mitsubishi when it came to the engines. Given our situation, how wide are our options for shoehorning a new engine into our given bay? Is it practical to lift a non-turbo 2.5 from the same era to hook to our still good turbo/throtle body/manifold situation? We are looking at our current plight with the optimistic idea that we could end up with something cooler than we started. What are our options, if any, for getting something hotter under the hood? Do any of the higher compression offerings found in mitsubishi cars fit? How much of a bastard would a full manual tranny swap be? Its a really nice car, I always thought among the best looking of all the Lebarons, and we'd love to brethe some life into it, but it needs to earn its keep as a reliable daily driver in order for us to hold on to it. There's some nostalgia associated with the car, but we're not going to spend as much on it as just getting a whole new decent used econobox. An overhead of $2k-3k would be about all the more I can get my old man to justify, so please Cryslter forum, any ideas?
