2003 Ultra ed. - Air conditioner problem - no air

The car is in great shape, but the cooling/heating seems completely dead. No air coming out for heating or cooling. It just starting doing this a couple days ago. It was recently serviced, and they never mentioned any issues. I looked at the "air conditioning clutch" fuses (two total) under the hood, and one of them was OK. The other was a different kind of fuse (big, metallic), so I couldn't tell if anything was wrong with it. Should I replace that fuse, or is it likely something else?

There is a fan under the dash that blows the air that you feel coming out of the vents, or floor vents, or defroster. The AC compressor under the hood compresses the freon which is released to lower pressure inside the box under the dash so that the blower motor moves air over the coils and that air gets cooled (or heated) before blowing out the vents.

What you seem to be saying is that there is no air blowing from the inside heater box. Do you hear the rush of air when you turn the blower on higher speeds?

You blower motor may not be turning at all. It could have something that has gotten into the fan blades. It could be burned out. It could be the blower motor control module that controls the blower speeds has burned out. That's an electronic circuit board that controls all the speeds.

There is no air period. It's completely dead. The buttons light up, but we get no flow at all. So it wouldn't be the fuse? Should I just take it in to Buick?

There is a fuse in the rear fuse box--under the rear seat. I'm looking at 2003 LeSabre manual and assuming it's similar in design to the Park Avenue system. It's a 30 amp fuse and supplies power to the blower control module which controls the blower speeds. That fuse is labeled HVAC BLO. There's another fuse HVAC, and one IGN 3 which supplies the control module for the HVAC motors. Do you hear the vanes inside the car move when you press different buttons just sitting with the ignition key ON but the car not running?

If it's not the fuse, a good shop should be able to troubleshoot it or a Buick dealer will charge more but often be less trouble in the end. The only thing I've found is they often won't fix something; instead they just replace parts because that's where the money is the for parts department.

There is a fuse box in the rear, but none of the fuses you mentioned are back there. The blower motor fuse and air cond clutch fuses are under the hood. I am used to dealing with small fuses, but all of these are big. I can't figure out how to remove the blower fuse.


I'll just have take it in tomorrow.
