I have a 1999 Yukon SLT 4WD with 163,000+ miles and it just lost all the antifreeze and overheated :shakehead. My husband doesn't want to pay the $600-$800.00 for a shop to fix it and has never replaced a intake manifold gasket. :banghead: I would rather pay the cash, but can understand since we have been ripped off by "Certified Mechanics/Shops" before. How hard is the job and what is actually needed? Does anyone have a step by step or pictures that can be sent to me? A link to a website where I can find a diagram of the 5.7L Vortec engine?
We have already replaced the water pump and that is the only thing it has been a very dependable vehicle and even pulled our 1997 F350 Dually Crewcab and 2004 Dodge Crecab out of 1 1/2 foot deep mud. I can really depend on this vehicle and where we live in Alaska that is what counts. Looking for anyone who has done the job on their vehicle.

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!
I have been frantically searching for pictures and step by step since last weekend and then I remembered that I joined this forum. If someone doesn't have a trusted mechanic they should check this website out.
This is the best... :smooch:

Brkrause6, Had a issue with using coolant and overheating. Noticed a leak at front of intake and had it replaced, no fix. We were adding water one day and my wife said " where is this water coming from?" It was a leak on the heater control valve. This was the whole issue< cost 20.00 bucks. Good luck, Mike
