99 voyager vibration soundCaptZane 07-08-2008, 12:36 AM Hi all, I have a 99 Voyager with a vibration/thumbing sound that increases as speed increases. The ride is smooth, alignment is good. I have front and back brakes replaced (sound was there before) shocks/struts good but still have sound. Tires in good condition and balanced. Took it to my regular mechanic who couldn't see anything wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks. RIP 07-08-2008, 04:50 AM Try rotating the tires from front to back and see if it makes a difference. CaptZane 07-08-2008, 11:32 AM sorry, should have said...I took the van in after the sound started to have the tires rotated and balanced in the hopes that it would solve the problem. It did not. I also had the outer tire rods replaced. RIP 07-08-2008, 05:37 PM Could it be the roof rack? There are several TSBs on 3rd generation vans for roof racks creating noises at speed. If you shift to neutral at speed does the noise change? Make sure you slow way down before shifting back to drive. CaptZane 07-09-2008, 10:24 AM I tried shifting to neutral...I even shut the engine down and coasted wondering if the noise was coming from there. It sounds like a sound you would hear if something was vibrating except there is no vibration, everything is smooth. It increases and decreases with speed of vehicle. I've had my mechanic check out if anything was hanging or loose when the van was up on the hoist when the brakes and tire rods were replaced but nothing was apparent. I could live with the noise...its not overpowering. The concern is a safety issue as well as the worry of breaking down. A friend suggested that if one of the tires has their steel belt shift this sound may occur but would there not be physical vibration? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
