2005 Grand Caravan: What is the easiest way to change serpentine belt?dodge05 07-02-2008, 09:22 AM What is the easiest way to change the serpentine belt on a 05 dodge grand caravan? Do you remove the front passenger side tire and the plastic covering in the wheel well to give access to the belt, or do you come from underneath for access? It doesn't seem possible from the top down. spider60620 07-02-2008, 10:03 AM This is not an easy choice, it's best to let a shop replace the belt, being a mechanic I said what the heck it's just getting a wrench on the bolt head for the tensioner, socket ratchet too wide, well I got the belt replaced but after about 1000 miles it kept walking off, the belt finally stretched what I soon discovered is that torqueing down on the tensioner pulley knocks it out of alignment causing the belt to walk you can buy a tension pulley tool at most auto part stores for appx. 60-80 bucks for a one time job. By the time I replaced the pulley from underneath plus two belts and my time it probably would have been cheaper to take it to the shop. fatdaddy62 07-08-2008, 08:52 AM Hey I just changed the water pump and serpentine belt in my drive. I was replacing the brake pads and my wife discovered the puddle under the van. Sorry to your question, I removed the tire and plastic guard. Do not take the tensioner loose. You get a pry bar and going into the arm of the tensioner and the frame of the van you can pry down the tensioner and slide the belt off without changing the alignment. It is very quick. Place around all pulleys and then slide over the AC pulley I found was easiest. Good luck. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
