2000 LeSabre Headlight Switch Repair

My headlight switch sticks in the on position. I took it out and opened the box, and it seems like the switch mechanism on the board works fine; the problem is with the plastic housing and the plastic buttons that fit into the housing. I tried sanding them down so that they would fit more smoothly, without sticking, but that didn't work. For now, I've just taken out the buttons altogether. I can just push the switch directly.

I've heard of others having this issue, so I'm wondering if there's a fix for this without buying the whole $120 switch mechanism when the problem is just with the plastic housing.

My wife's car had the same problem. but never bothered to take it all apart as I knew GM would want a tidy sum for it. I managed to pop it out using an exacto knife. Since the car has automatic headlights, the button is really useless anyway. It was never used when I owned the car and she never uses it. It only got pushed in, in my case, when I replaced a headlight, and pushed in the button to test the new light. Unless for some reason I don't know of, don't bother using the button.

The only reason I want to fix it is that I have now twice accidentally hit the button with my knee or something when getting out of the car and unknowingly left the lights on (since they normally take 10 minutes to turn off, it's easy to miss). Then I have to get out the battery charger to start it up, which is kind of a pain.
