Speedo pegs to far rightbtroy 06-25-2008, 01:42 AM Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2000 DOHC Taurus. It recently broke the crankshaft pulley which I replaced. I also installed a new belt. Anyway today I was driving and the speedo pegged to the far right and the Airbag light came on. The car runs fine and the temp is ok. Oil is ok as well as the fluid levels. Not sure what would be causing this issue. I did disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes (both leads) but when I reconnected it the car the does the same thing. Any ideal what might be causing this issue. No check engine lights are on. Just the airbag and the pegged needle. It sometimes starts to bounce but then it returns to the right. It does return to the normal postion when I turn the car off. shorod 06-25-2008, 07:44 AM When the speedo is pegged, does the transmission seems to shift any differently? When the airbag/SRS light comes on, does it start out by flashing? How about when you first start the car, does it flash in a sequence for the first 30 seconds or so? You're sure it's the airbag light and not the ABS light? Has the instrument cluster been removed recently, or have you had an aftermarket alarm or remote starter installed? -Rod btroy 06-27-2008, 02:52 PM Yes it acts just like you described. The car is my sons and I am trying to fix it remotely. I did replace the pulley last week and then it started displaying these symptons the day after. It is the Airbag light. now the wipers stopped working as well. What might you think it is? Your help is very much appreciated. shorod 06-27-2008, 07:56 PM The flashing Airbag/SRS light will be flashing out a diagnostic Lamp Fault Code (LFC). Your son needs to record the sequence, such as flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash which would indicate a code 32. This LFC will help zero in on the issue. Initial suspects at this point would be clockspring, multifunction switch, and/or Transmission Range Sensor (TRS). -Rod btroy 06-30-2008, 02:16 PM 32 then it flashes 1.2.3 and repeats 1.2.3 I have no clue what that means shorod 06-30-2008, 11:08 PM Code 32 would indicate you've got probably a faulty clockspring in the steering column (Driver airbag circuit resistance high). I'm also not sure about your additional codes. Are you absolutely sure that's the pattern that's being flashed out? -Rod btroy 07-01-2008, 01:39 AM ok, that make since now how about replacing that faulty clockspring circuit. I did some searches and understand the replacement process, however I do have 1 question about resetting it, if I correct this fauly clockspring will the system turn the light off itself or will this require a trip to an airbag/dealer shop? I am not sure he is reading the remaining flashes correctly. I will address 1 issue at a time. After we get the 32 cleared we will move forward from there. Thanks shorod 07-01-2008, 07:38 AM When the system no longer recognizes high resistance in the clockspring circuit, the light will stop flashing and staying on, assuming that is the only code and it is related to the clockspring. The code may remain as a history code for some number of start cycles, but will eventually clear. -Rod btroy 07-07-2008, 03:59 PM is there any other sources for a clock spring other than the dealer? How much do these coat from the dealer?(ballpark ) shorod 07-07-2008, 11:34 PM You can go with an online OEM dealer as well and save some bucks. I've used Fast Parts Network (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=318) a few times and have been very satisfied with their prices and speed of delivery. I've never had to deal with their customer support yet, so I cannot comment on that. -Rod btroy 08-03-2008, 02:56 PM I have the car here now, so here is a list of what does not work. Sure seems like it would be something in common that is causing this issue. The following do not work: 1. power locks 2. power trunk unlock 3. power windows 4. windsheild wipers 5. odometer 6. interior lights 7. door buzzer 8. seat belt indicator/buzzer The Air Bag light is on. Still think this is a clockspring? I really don't understand this as it was working 1 day and the next day not. Troy You can go with an online OEM dealer as well and save some bucks. I'd suggest you check all the fuses under the hood and in the cabin. Also check the Accessory Delay Relay/Battery Saver circuit. Many of the items you mention would be controlled by the accessory delay relay. Another common item would be the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). If you can find a friend or shop with a professional scan tool, they should be able to attempt to connect to the GEM. See if there is communication with the GEM. -Rod vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
