I have successfully put new lights in my steering wheel. I was not able to take any pictures but the procedure was very simple if you can work a soldering iron. The Bulb needed is radio shack part number 272-1092, its a 2 pack. Identical bulbs to the ones used by the factory. Just reuse the lamp covering (which is blue). I did both of the top switches and each held 2 bulbs. Total time, 45 minutes. You can reuse the bulb bases or cradle, but I found that difficult so I did not. There is plenty of room in there if you would like to use a different bulb or LED with resistor. Plenty of room on the board, no need to worry about burning leads with the soldering iron. If you have any questions feel free to let me know, just thought I would let all know of the correct part number.

A dental pick or a paper clip with the end bent 90 degrees for about a 1/4". Then work the top and bottom back and forth till it gently moves out. Have to stick the pick in there about 1 1/2" before you can turn it and catch anything.

I have a 2005 as well as a 2000. The 2000 isn't driven that much at night so hadn't noticed the lights out. They are. I took apart the 2005 upper switch right hand side. The paper clips just didn't work for me. So I used a couple of very small screwdrivers. Looks like there is one locking mechanizim and a opening for the single plug. You have to pull the switch out quite a bit. It is pretty deep. I was afraid wires were not long enough but they were. I got the switch out about a half an inch clear of the opening and was able to unlock the single power connection plug. The switch itself the circuit board is a single sided one so the solder points dont go through to the back.I was able to just cut off the leads after breaking the bulbs. Careful not to damage the blue boots. Yep I tore one and now one of my sets of lights is white instead of blue. On mine the lights where supported by a white bracket holder. I was able to get one back on but eventually figured the other was not worth the fight. The space the bulb fits into in the matching plastic peace was pretty well defined for the bulb. So I had to adjust accordingly. Thanks for the advice on how to do this but I needed to use those small screwdrivers to get mine out. I don't know what your part number is but my dash interior is dark gray. The numbers I found on the switch were. 25762355 Then another number 0214B5 Mexico. Thanks again for the information. You know this Buick 2005 is a replacement for the one that got t-boned earlier in the year. I had pleanty of money to replace it and could find no suitable replacement. My car get me 30 mpg on the highway with plenty of power. Now why are the replacements for these so poorly made and give less mileage. GM is driving me to an import. Darn they need to do better. Then again if the guy who designed these switches still works for them maybe I can see what the problem is. Thanks again

Glad I could help. The white plastic holders are not needed, I ditched mine and as for the color of the light, radio shack or some online electronic retailers sell colored shrink tubing.

On the side note, I can get about 33-34 on the highway and 27 in the city, there's not a new car out there from GM that can touch it with the same amount of power. Really can't see me getting rid of it anytime soon.
