I started this a few weeks ago. It's my first model in a long time due to some personal problems in my life, hopefully now sorted out.
I don't know how frequent the updates are going to be, but it's not such a complicated build really. So far I have painted the body with Zero's Ferrari Rosso Flou as I'm modeling the early season version before they changed to the Candy Red colour, added the bulk of the decals and clear coated. It still needs a bit of a polish, but I am pleased overall with the finish. The only extras are the Marlboro decals. The Revell decals were used for the rest of the sponsor markings and are really quite good.Anyway here are a few pictures of the progress so far.

Could be a while before the next update because I'm only working on it when I feel like doing so and my motivation is a little low right now to say the least, but keep checking in for the updates.

Excellent start with this kit!
Hope your problems will be over soon and you'll be able to concentrate more on modeling beautiful F1 racers.

Incredible paint job.

Oh, and welcome back. I always enjoy seeing your builds !

Are you going to drill out the air intake for the engine ?

Hi Steve,

Great work as always. I am exactly at the same stage with a Revell 1/24 F-2005. I know from your previous WIPs that you use, and get excellent results with Zero Paints base colours and clears. It's the clears esp. the 2 Pak system that you have used to great effect, that I wish you could pass on some of your experience with. What airbrush and tip size are you using? Also what PSI do spray at, and do you follow the thinning ratios to the letter? I have the 2 Pak system ready to go and I would value the imput from someone who as already gone through the trial and error process. Again, your results are consistently excellent with this product so any tips would be greatly appreciated before I point the gun at 15 hours of work!! Thanks in advance.

This is the airbrush I am using for all my painting of body parts. It's a Tamiya Spray Work HG Wide Trigger type.It has a 0.5mm needle.

Make sure your primer coats are smooth and well sanded back with fine wet and dry (used wet) I always use Tamiya primer.I also thin the Zero base coat paints some more as I find they apply even smoother. You don't need to add too much thinner, I find the consistency of milk is about perfect.
The 2 pack lacquer I mix as per the guide ratios, but again I add a little more thinner to the mix.On the last coat I add just a touch more thinner to the mix and it usually flows out very nicely to leave the minimum of polishing and virtually no 'orange peel' With the 2 pack I normally spray 1 light tack coat, 1 medium wet coat and 1 full wet coat and this is usually enough.20-25 PSI is usually perfect for spraying with the Tamiya brush, but you can experiment for your particular airbrush.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I was looking at drilling out the intake but I've painted it black and it doesn't look too bad so I'm going to leave it as it is.

Looks nice. Did you have to modify the front width like the F2005 kit required?

It seems as though those front tires are a little too wide?

Pristine work as always

Are those seat belts the kit decals?
If yes, they look surprisingly good in the photos! :)

I haven't done anything with the kit regards to modifications. It's just out of the box.Maybe they are a little wide, but I hadn't noticed to be honest.

The seat belts are a little like the Tamiya kits where they are raised plastic which you paint and apply decals onto.I was pleasantly surprised how well they turned out myself.

Nice finish on the paint job Steve. Looks like a nice model too that F2007; I guess if I want to model new F1 cars I shall have to change scale (or win the pools).

I agree about the front tyres as it looks "off"...like a matchox car or something unrealistic. I'll just wait and see what the whole completed thing looks like though first. Great paintjob. Always amazed when I have to remind myself of the scale. Could be just because it's Revell, I don't know, but it just looks very plasticky to me...

Some small progress on the model.I've been working on the wings front and rear and also all the small aerodynamic add on parts of which there are many.I've almost finished the front wing area, just some small supports to paint and fit.The wing seems miles off the ground though? Doesn't look like it sits this high in the reference pictures I have, but there seems no way of lowering it so it will have to stay that way.Overall it's not such a bad kit but it's not up to the standards of a Tamiya kit and it shows this in certain areas, mainly parts fit and the instructions are a bit poor in places as well, particularly as regards painting the parts.

Looks great now Steve. The height of the front wing looks a bit high to me too. Although they have been massively raised by the FIA in recent years (in an attempt to reduce downforce) the bottom of the front end plate should be about levels with the bottom of the wheel (i.e. it is about the thickness of the side wall of the tyre off the ground).

Steve

as usual your paintwork is flawless, your ability to paint and gloss coat is really something that I admire and long to replicate. Beautiful stuff.

Hope you get the personal stuff sorted soon

Steve,

This one is really coming together beautifully. I personally love 1/24th F1 because it fits in with everything else and as you are proving: great paint and attention to detail can go a long way to making an average kit look sensational. BTW thanks for the tips on your paint set-up, I will put them to good use in the near future. Looking forward to seeing this one finished!
