87 Toy motor rebuild. Carb version

Is the bolt for the harmonic balancer (pulleys) on a right or left thread? What kind of puller is needed for the fly wheel? Any bolt on after markrt parts for a few extra horse power? I might as well ask. Besides going thru the entire motor, rings, bearings etc, what else should be checked and or replaced? I would like AC on this truck, where do I look for an after market AC kit. This truck never had AC on it and I can't find it around here. The truck is to old. It has to be after market AC kit of some kind.

The bolt for the harmonic balancer is a right hand thread. If you have bolt holes in the harmonic balancer get some long bolts and a harmonic balancer puller. They kind of look like a y with a bar in the center. I never needed a puller for the flywheel just unbolted and it came loose.
In the Atlanta Area New York Block sells good used engines with around 50.000 miles on them from Japan. You have to use your intake as they use different ones. They are a lot cheaper.

With the New York blocks, would there be computor and or vacuum issues? Would everything bolt up? How are the NY blocks with 50k miles on them, different from my block. Which is an 87 model with (I think) 95 hp. How many hp do these NY 50k mile blocks have?

I'm retired at this time but I bought a few when I had a garage. I had to buy gaskets and install the original intake. Every thing bolted up and fit no modifications were needed.
A man who used to work for me uses them all the time. At present day shop time I think he gets $85.00 an hour. You couldn't sell them cheaper than a machine shop rebuild if you had to make modifications. I didn't have to pay a core charge at that time.
They used to give you 6 months warranty but didn't pay labor.
I don't know where you live but you can call them and take a pickup and get it if you want.
I even had a Ford Probe come in who went to a quick lube and they left the drain plug out of the transmission. As Mazda makes them I bought a Mazda transmission from them and it fit perfectly. I just had to swap a mount. This saved the man big money.

Called NY block yesterday and talked to Dave (nice guy) in South Carolina. He does not bid (at auction) on the 22R motor. His reasoning was that the motor is too old and would not meet an ISO rating (whatever that ISO rating is?).
Oh well, I guess I have no choose but to have it rebuilt at $1700.00....
I wish I had an alternative off some sort?.
