What do you guys think about all this??

Seems like they are trying to perfect these vehicles to much. With electric and hydrogen, seems like a waste of time and money. Do you think that gasoline cars are going to go out of style soon?? or do you agree with me and say that cars like what were driving now are going to be around for the next 50 years plus? Any opinions?

I dont know about the next 50 years but I think there is still a lot of perfecting to do with hydrogen and other alternatives. I think we will be seeing a lot more hybrids but not sure I can believe we are going to be going to full electric, full hydrogen...then again they have been making technological advances awful quickly nowadays so 50 years is a long time if you think about it. We shall see but something needs to be done to stick it to the oil companies.

Thats been my point all along....people are going to buy these electric cars and all that stuff, but when gas prices go down...those of us with gas cars are going to be better off. I plan to drive gasoline powered car until the day they stop selling fuel and it is impossible to find or the government says it is illegal to run a fossil fuel engine.

they better not stop producing gasoline. What about everyone with collector cars?

HA HA, Global Warming.... We got hammered with three blizzards in a row in the first week of May this year. Right now its 62 degrees and its June 5th. Yesterday I actually had to wear a jacket and two nights ago we put the heater on in our house again because it was just that cold out. And your telling me that because where driving cars that emit CO2 that its causing the temp of the earth to warm? I'm saying BS! Reality check.... green plants consume CO2 and produce oxygen.

Off Topic, I read an aritcle somewhere once about a vehicle that claimed the exhaust leaving the tail pipe was cleaner than the air entering the intake. Claimed that it could run on its own exhaust fumes.... Quite an interesting article, but I didnt believe it for a second.

Dont even get me started on hybrids...

I was reading an article about how ALL hybrids have to get their batteries replaced at right around 70,000 miles give or take.

These batteriers werent cheap (3000 bucks at the time). Imagine shelling out 3000 bucks to repair your car with only 70,000 miles on it. NUTS!

Us gasoline vehicle owners can go 300,000 miles without any major repairs if we keep up on maintenance. Not to mention parts for our GP's are pretty much dirt cheap in comparison to hybrids mainly due to the fact that GM uses our same motors and trannys in most of their fwd w-body cars.

Just like r12 was causing the global warming too.

Yeah lets all go out and trade in our GPs for a Toyota Prius and save the whales. :uhoh:.....:lol: Blazing performance too. 0-60 mph in 12 seconds and 1/4 around 19 sec. But as the green weenies point out that is not the point when buying a green machine. :rolleyes: All my cars are paid for in full and I'll be damned if I am going to waste around $23K-$25K for a fully loaded Prius just to be green. I'd save more money in the long run regardless of the gas prices.

Bob, funny you should mention "paid in full" this is the first car loan I took out for my GTP. Loan was for 6000 after my downpayment and taxes. I opted for the 3-yr loan so its about 170 a month. Yesterday I recieved a call for my loan company. They left a voicemail and just simply said that I "need" to call them back. I thought O $hit, what happened, did I miss a payment or something, so I called them back immediatly. Turns out that I'm "paid up" whatever that means and that my last months payment ($500.00) she just wanted to know if I want to apply to the principle. I really had no idea what she was talking about and I said, "I dont know, but I just sent you another $500.00 payment for this month" so I think she applied it to my principle. I want that car paid off SO BAD! Sucks that I have a student loan too. I hate being in dept... No credit card debt though so thank GOD!

Yeah Tim I know what you mean. My GTP has been paid off since 2002 and my Regal GS since 2006. Nice having clean, lien free titles. :grinyes:

The point I was trying to make is it doesn't make sense to go out and blow money or incur new debt on a new car especially the hybrids or worthless flex fuel vehicles and waste money. I pity the people that purchased gas guzzling SUVs and pick up trucks with V8s but laugh looking at their faces at the gas station. <---and all the way to the bank. :lol:

On Thursday, gas dropped down to 3:96. It cost me almost $60 to fill the tank, at least I am getting 30 miles to a gallon.

what about this chevy volt coming out.....personally i think its going to be Genuine 100% junke money making scheme that will break down within 50,000 miles and need major repair work. I find it funny that if you read the article about the VOLT, they only mention plugging the car in, even though it has a gasoline powered 1 liter 3 cylnder TURBO engine that might use Premium fuel, they dont mention that though, the average moron thinks all i have to do is plug it in and never have to pay for gas.

not to mention plugging in a car defeats a purpose. What about the pollution released to create the electricity to charge the batteries?

There's just no end, people just need to give it up and drive what they have for longer. Isnt any rule out there that says a person cant get 200,000 miles out of a car. Take car of it and it will take care of you!

you basically lose both ways with this Chevy volt, eletric bill probably going up alot, still playing for gas(possibly Premium fuel) and more expensive maintenece and repair work......thanks but i'll stick with straight average gasoline cars

---not to mention......how long do we know this gas "crisis" is going to happen for, by 2010 the gas could be back down to like 2.95-to 3.15 a gallon....expensive but no need for electric crap in my opinion

In the mid-Atlantic, we just had our 4th day of 100 degree temperatures - at the beginning of June. So if you're going by 1 week's worth of weather, then I'd have to say global warming is real.

And the batteries in most hybrids are warrantied for 100,000 miles.

they wont be warrantied once enough people start buying them. Once Car companies have to start replacing enough batteries for free, the warranty milaege will drop drastically and cost more to replace, guarenteed. I heard the rise in temperature is due to the earthquake in china.
