its a good idea to put a 5 speed on a lt1? gorgepr 05-26-2008, 10:42 AM
guys I'm sick of burning automatic transmisions, I have rebuild the 4l60e of my 94 T/A, a few days ago a guy came to me selling me a 5 speed that came out of an 87 trans am with a 350 on it, I'm thinking it could be a GTA, but I'm not sure if it will hold together or if it will just break, I know that a t56 is the best option but I dont have the 1000 dollars that those are costing right now, and I dont want to rebuild the 4l60e so, a 5 speed for 250 bucks on a 94 lt1 should work? stieh2000 05-26-2008, 11:48 AM In a nutshell no. First, 350s never came with five speeds, is was probably a 305 in that Trans Am. 350 never came with 5 speeds because the extra trouqe would break the tranny in no time. Therefore, if you want a manual instead of the auto, get the six speed, even though it will be more expensive and a fair amount of work to convert your car over. cuda_dude 05-26-2008, 12:18 PM I wouldn't recommend it... Save up for the t56 or do the rebuild on the auto daveshapellSVT 05-28-2008, 09:27 PM Third gen 5 speed trannies are weak and can't handle much more then stock power. I say do a performance rebuild on the auto it will shift super hard and fast and will be the most consistant. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
