Question....

Has anyone had any dealings with a wild gas gauge that, once the tank is filled, dings 3 x's, goes to the bottom on the display, then the SES light comes on, and the display says "LOW FUEL". After some driving, the gauge will return to normal "FULL", but the SES light will remain on untill you restart the engine???????

The scan says "LOW FUEL".............

Any suggestions or thoughts?????

Is the gas cap on tight? I was having similar issues and it turned out to be that even tho the gas cap was clicking as if it was tight, it wasn't catching up on the grooves and wasn't securing it self causing pressure differences insisde the gas tank and trowing the system out of wack!

It could also be a bad fuel sending unit which from what I hear is actually mounted inside the tank on the fuel pump and will require the fuel tank to be removed. Most GM cars suffer from this

As far as I know, the only Malibus that were the subject of bad fuel tanks were certain '04 (like mine) and early-build '05 Maxxes. I've never heard of bad fuel tanks on any others.
