i have an 89 dodge dakota with about 153000 miles on it, motor runs ok. Recently(like the past week) i have noticed a chatter/noise coming from the undercarrige. I took it over to the shop i work at parttime and we tried to diagnoise it. We put it up on jack stands and spun the drive shaft no noise, the tranny mount is fine. It doen't make the sound when i am in park romping on the gas, it only makes the noise when i have the tranmission engaged in gear with a load on it. i was thinking it was the torque converter. i was wondering if any one has any insight to what my problem might be.

Hey Dude My Truck Is Doing The Same Thing ... Did You Ever Figure Out What Was Making The Noise ? Mine Is Doing This , But Only When I Am Pulling A Small Trailer With A 200 Pound Cr250r On It , And The Truck Bed Loaded Down. Ever Figure Your Problem Out ? Thanks , Barry

Check out the u-joints. Especially the rear. You should notice that they will have side to side and up and down play on them if they are bad. They are non greasable on the newer ones, I imagine they are the same on your '89. after 150,000 miles, they are probably worn out. Let me know what you find out.
