Hi, I have a 2000 Ford Expedition that runs great and starts fine in cool weather. However it seems once over 80 degrees you can drive it but then when u turn it off it wont start again for about an hour. The starter, battery, and alternator have all been replaced and still happens. I've heard of the starter relay on the firewall but that is not very clear. The relays in the fuse box or the cylanoid on the top firewall??? We cant figure it out and want help and possibly a part number if available. Thanks

If it makes a clicking sound but doesn't turn over it is the solenoid or a bad positive or negative battery cable. I'm assuming when you say "It won't start" that you mean it won't turn over with the starter. If it will turn over with the starter but won't start the engine it could be a bad ignition module or bad temperature sensors.

Thank you very much. I have full power to the vehicle but when I turn the key, nothing. The starter wont even click. It did this all last summer and now that is getting hot again its acting up. It has never done it once in cool weather.

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition and I have the same problem. I would drive the vehicle for 2 hrs/100 miles and after being parked for 30 mins or so, it won't start. I have power, all lights/horn and all dashboard lights/instruments/gauges work, except for the radio that doesn't work. When I try to start the vehicle, it won't do anything, except for a faint tud. I started having trouble with it around the beginning of winter last year. Since then, the problem has become worst. Now it is at the point that it won't start after I drive it for a couple of miles in a 30 degree F wheather and park. I had the alternator, the battery, and the starter ckecked, but found nothing wrong with it. I took it to the FORD Dealership and they could not find the cause. Talking to mechanics, I'm inclining towards the starter. Does anyone has any ideas?

I would plan a day when hot outside and then drive it up to the dealer until it fails in front of them. They should be able to pinpoint the problem then. Ignition switch is my guess.

Almost the same here with my 2000 Ford Expedition. However somtimes it doesnt matter if its hot outside, the engines hot, or its cold outside; unpredictably/occassionally it won't start while in park. I have found that it will start in Neutral everytime though. Although this does not solve all of our problems, it'll get you out of a pinch when needing to get somewhere in the mean time. The only thing that makes since to me from what I've heard is that one of the battery cables might me faulty. Now what that has to do with the vehicle being in "park" I haven't the slightest, but I'm gonna try replacing it and see what happens. Good Luck everybody.

If there's any sign of battery corrosion on battery cable, get rid of them.

The battery corrosion can work itself into the cable under the insulation, and cause resistance. The Alternator can't do it's job charging the battery, thus there's not enough battery to start your truck.

Yea! Some shop's will act dumb, and turn something simple into a major project by replacing the battery, starter, and Alternator.

Thanks. Any idea on how invasive and cost effective replacing the cables can be?

Go to any local Auto parts store and have both the battery + Alternator load tested, and get the battery cables checked for free.
