I have a 2004 GL2 4dr 3.4L indigo blue alero, and I swapped out the stock rear drums for a SSBC 12" disk brake kit and I cannot get the parking brake cables to work properly. Is there anyone who has done this swap on a 2004 and if so how did you get it to work.

As with you parking brake, was the parking brake lever connected properly ?

Sorry the second post was to see if any one with an n-body car has done such a swap not just alero owners. The brake lever is not the problem, it is routed by a single cable to the rear. The problem lies with the routing of the rear cabes.

Multiple posts are prohibited, and not realy needed as thier are many who cruise all parts of AF.

As with the cable(s), it will look like this at the wheel 90 deg bend.

And the one cable coming from the brake lever(inside the car) goes to the center of the rear crossmember where it connects to both of the cables, that actualy pulls the arms on the brakes to engauge the ebrake.... looks something like this.

I swapped out my GA SE with GT discs, not as easy as you'd think.

The brake kit is suspose to use the stock drum cables but, the bracket is attached to the front bolt on the caliper mount.

Ok the bottom pick, looks like the bracket is pointing in th ewrong direction. It could angle down a little where the cable inserts......
Are you sure that it's on right ??

IT might reach this way, moved down to the green line, cable throu the backside.


Somethings else is missing from yours....the backing plate.

And I dont think the drum ebrake cable is long enough, and you do not want it to rub over top of the rear cross member. :grinno:

When I did my swap, I used the old cable and the other parts I had on a wrecked GA GT.

The bracket can't move either up or down, it's touching both the caliper body and the hub, it is installed according to the instructions. This is a 12" big drum to disk kit so dust covers won't fit on the rotors. Here's a better look with out the bracket. passenger side

Thanks they look good on the car with 17" rims. I'm going to replace the fronts with the same SSBC 12" sloted rotors when they come in.

Where did you get your braided brake hoses ?

I thought I saw some on PFYC and Napa but they are pricey!
Could you tell a differance when you installed them ?

also thier is some adjustment of the cable in the center of the cross member... like my rusty one here.

I haven't diven the car much yet because of the parking brake cable issue and also waiting for the fronts to come. The braided brake lines came with the kit. As you can see with the front kit.

The problem with the parking brake cables is the sheath isn't long enough to reach. So I ordered some universal parking brake cables so I can measure and cut them to the right length. I was just curious if anyone here had done this swap before and what their solution was, to see if I was missing something.
