Hello,

Next kit Ferrari F1-2000. I hope his will be better then my B192. I learned alot from the B192 and #1 is i need more PATIENTS. Well here i go on my second F1.

This will be the number 3 Michael Schumacher car.

On the monocoque and the rear cowling, i took 0.3mm and 0.5mm drill bits and drilled all the little dips. I am still experimenting and trying different stuff to see ow it turns out, I think it looks really nice, in my opinion. I can't get any pictures of it with my camera though.

I'm trying to get detailed small bit at a time, if there is any advice on what or how to do something please post, this would help me alot.

Front Wing: I took 600 and 1500 grit sandpaper and sanded it, drill a 1mm hole for the little wing that comes out. I puttied the ugly spot and will sand it down in a couple days.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/Zubski_8/DSC00334a-3.jpg

Rear Wing: I sanded it with 600 and 1500 grit sandpaper and some parts are primed already. Some parts are still waiting for putty to be sanded down.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/Zubski_8/DSC00338a-2.jpg

Rear Cowling: Sanded it all, glued the pieces on and puttied.

Great start again!! I admire the way you approach your building and by this I mean that you finish one model and get straight onto another and all the time you seem to be learning from your mistakes and you endeavor to make your next model better than the last.
I am looking forward to following your Ferrari.

Hello,

Just would like to show you what i did with the front wing.

I made sure the wing was striaght, last time i did this it was cruked.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/Zubski_8/DSC00335a-4.jpg

I made sure that it was the same lenght away top and bottom.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/Zubski_8/DSC00336a-3.jpg
I primed the top of the rear cowling the side still needs to be sanded. I also primed the rims, now you can see were i drilled the holes.

Hello,

I have 2 questions:

1. I want to paint the white on like the wing and such, but not sure which white too use, Tamiya Spray can if possible. This is probably a stupid question, but just making sure, because i don't know if it just white, flat white or anything else.

2. For this decal when i am putting it on the Rear Cowling because i am almost ready to decal it in a couple of days, I was wondering if i can cut it down the middle like in the picture to make it easier to apply or will it wreck it and not look good? I would like to use the M@r!b*r* decals but i don't have any so I will have to use the kit decals.

Thanks for the help

You could cut it carefully and apply it with a slight overlap at the top or you could omit the decal altogether and mask and spray the white section instead?

I believe TS-26 Pure White will work. I use it on the Tameo kits and the white decal and paint are very similar

great start so far

I would go with TS26 too.

I would say the decal should be fine in 1 piece with a bit of microsol on it.

If u take your time, it's going to be a good model in the finish.
I have done a f12001. Most of it was spray cans and brush.
I will never forget doing the steering wheel, took me many hours and hours of concentration. Damn modern steering wheels!
I ain't no expert either but u learn.

Good start so far. I've just dne an F2001 and did the F2000 many years ago so I know the kit well. If I were you I'd leave the decal as one piece. Cutting it inevitably means there will be a gap where it joins the other side. You also risk damaging the edge of the decal where you cut it. If you put a bit of microset where the decal is going to go, place the decal then gently encourage it to curve around onto the other side with a bit of microsol you should find that looks better. Also you can get some experience with the old sol/set that way as they definitely come in handy on a lot of models

Thank you guys.

I am soo mad. I was polishing the nose and i didnt know you were NOT supost to press hard and when i did this the red came of in some parts. I was soo proud of myself too, it was so shiny and all the orange peel was gone and boom knife goes thorugh my hearth. Now i have to put it in brake fluid and start all over.

I hope I catch you before you commit to the Brake fluid. If it's just the edges that have gone through try reshooting a couple of coats again with the TS-49.You've already got a good base so once the paint is dry is should be pretty smooth. Since it's the edges they normally pick up reflections and even if it's a touch lighter then the rest it may not be that noticable.

If that doesn't work then strip it, beats starting from scratch:banghead:

Learning mistakes the hard way, is there any other way?:grinno:

Wheels are looking good. What paint did you use on them?? Looks like the kit needs plenty of putty work!! I hate that part of building. All the putty work just stops me getting to the bit I enjoy....painting!!! But the better the putty work the better the finish. You can be the best painter in the world but poor preparation will always show. It's good that you are taking your time and getting it right.

Nice work on this model; it shows that your skills are improving all the time.

Does anybody know the part number for the Formula Perfect Manual Series Vol.3 Close up and history?

There are 2x on eBay right now... one in Japan is 27USD from a seller I have purchased FPMs from before.

I wonder what else is going to happen to this model. I never had the lamp fall for the year its been there.

If you don't have the pointed piece that broke off you could try to glue some plastic card of the same thickness in place and sand it to shape.Only thing is you will have to repaint the repaired area or repaint the cowling. If you have the pointed piece glue it back on and fill the join. You can mask along the panel lines and respray just the back area of the cowling.

I decided to paint the suspension, glued the camera on the nose, painted the clear red and clear blue on the wheels, i used blue though because i don't have clear blue i really don't like it it's too dark.

Can someone please tell me the correct way to get a shine. I clear, polish and wax but no were near as shiny as i want it. Can someone please tell me how to get a good shine.

There isn't really a correct way to get a good shine.Everyone has their own method.
I do it as follows:

1: Prepare the parts and do any filling of gaps etc.
2: Apply primer to check quality of preparation work.If it's good, final primer, if not repeat step 1 until you have the result you want.
3: After final primer and drying time, lightly wet sand primer coat with 1500-2000 wet and dry paper.Make sure the surface is clean and smooth and free from any defects or flaws.
4:Clean surface with solvent wipe to remove any sanding residue or grease from fingers.
5: Apply colour coats, light and even.More lighter coats are better than 1 heavy coat.If any flaws or defects appear sand out before applying the next coat of colour. When happy you have a nice even colour coat applied leave to dry.
6: Once thoroughly dried I apply the clear coat.Lightly at first and drying in between coats. My last couple of coats will be thinned more than the first and will be applied so the clear is 'wet' and has a nice shine to it.Although I would never describe them as overly wet.
7: After a period of drying I wet sand with 6000 and 8000 micromesh cloths.
8: I will then polish with various rubbing compounds (Tamiya, Finishers etc) using the different types (course, medium, smooth and final finish) as required, to refine the finish and get a nice deep glossy shine to the paint.
9: Finally use a decent wax and wax the surface.

This is just the way I do it.Others will do it differently to me.You need to experiment, find a way that works for you and stick to it and perfect it.It also depends on the types of paint you use, type of clear etc. Some paints have much longer drying times for example than others.

To be honest the finish you have achieved on that nose cone looks pretty damn good to me!!!! So you are not doing anything fundamentally wrong in my opinion.

Hello,

Nothing really going on with this model. I need more white primer and the hobby shop doesn't have any right now so i have to wait. I kind of lost interest in this build, i really prefer older kits, i find them more fun then these newer cars. So from now on i will be building the older kits. I will try to get this one done as soon as i can.

Thank you very much steve, this will be very helpful.

I left the picture big so you can really see how it looks.

Hello,

Remember this kit?
Well i got back to it. I make a mistake though, i bought this primer i thought was white, but actually
is light grey so the red turned out darker then it should. All thats left with this kit is the engine then its done.

This is what tricked me, the lid is white so i thought it was white primer, O well.

There are some problems with the red paint, but a quick bath in alcohol will make like new and you can start all over again.

That's what I'm planing with my F-2000, my first ever model.

Don't give up! :)

Well alot happend with this model. First the rear cowling is a disaster, the back wing decals got wrecked, there are two different red on it and the list goes on and on. In the future i will most likely take it apart and start it all over, not anytime soon though:nono:

Don't give up! :)

Well i am for now, im afriad if i touch it ill mess it up some more:rolleyes: , so ill put to down for now and get back to it when im ready:iceslolan

When my Jordan is finished ill be takeing a break from building and get back to it next summer. Well i don't want to take a break:grinno: school is making me:uhoh: But when i do get back to modeling i should have many kits collected and waiting:iceslolan
