96 neon keeps dying on me!

I've got a 96 neon SOHC 2.0 with a manual trans. It starts and runs fine until I've been driving for about a half hour, and then it starts happening. It will miss once, then twice, then three of four times until it finally just dies. It won't restart right away, but if you give it a few it will fire back up. If it sits for about 5 minutes it might start up and run for only 2 min. If it sits for 15 or 20 minutes it might run for 10 minutes when I start it again. Also, it seems the harder I run it, the less time it takes to start missing and eventually die. I've replaced the ignition coil, fuel filter, and took the guts out of the cat. I rigged up a fuel pressure gauge so I could watch it while driving, and the fuel pressure never fluctuates. CEL will flash codes 42 & 43. This thing is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the fuel pressure at?

Code 42 is for the ASD/Fuel pump relay. Have a look at those.

Fuel pressure was 48 or 49, and remained constant. I also tried swapping out both relays with ones that I knew were good. Could this be a bad spot in a wire grounding out?

On my '98 I had a similar happening and it was the crankshaft position sensor that was bad. Interestingly it would only code out immediately after the engine quit,if I let it sit and cool off, no code. You might see if you can get it to an Auto Zone and let it die and then have them code it(free) instantly.

^^^That or the camshaft sensor.

I'm going to check into the crank sensor. I've heard the cam sensor won't cause it to die, just run poorly like a limp home mode. Any truth to this?

Take it from one that has been there, a bad Crankshaft position sensor will leave you dead in the water and you will not limp anywhere.

I finally got around to checking the crank position sensor. I checked it with the car cold and afer running it till it quit. I got the same readings both times and both were what the service manual called for. Any ideas of where I need to look next?
