Hello there,
I have found the coolant bleeder on the bypass tube but this engine does not seem to be set up like the reference guide is telling me for the second bleeder located on the water outlet housing. I don't have a thermostat mounted up on the engine it is away down low between the radiator and the block. The thermostat is mounted down there to what looks like a piping intersection. So with my engine being different I can not locate this bleeder, or wondering if it even has a second one now?

Editing 3:45 P.M.
Now that I have drained the system and still no sign of a 2nd bleeder screw I am now getting the low coolant warning light when trying to run engine to flush with water.

there isnt a second one, if you are looking at the haynes manual, it shows 2, the first pic is where its at on the 95-97 2.2s, the second pic is where its at on the 98-01 2.2s

also, your low coolant sensor is in your overflow tank, be sure that is full

Thanks Jake,
After reading your post I figured out what was going on, good call. I recently dealt with the 1997 3.4 with a deteriorated head gasket you know where the temp gauge goes through the roof for no apparent reason, so I was a little gun shy. The sensor I am pretty sure is shot. Not complaining, I got 193,000 miles out of it. Spent the day draining and filling water on 2 of my vehicles; the 1998 Cavalier, and my good old never leaves me stranded 1991 4x4 S-10. I don't think I would take $5000 for old dependable. I would be afraid of what I would get for $5000............LOL

REMINDER EVERYONE!
Keep your cooling system clean by changing the old green stuff every year and the new green and dex-cool every couple years. I am looking at an $1800 head gasket job on my 1997 Pontiac Trans Port, and probably the biggest reason, I never changed the Dex-cool in 10 YEARS.
