2000 Malibu LS Cruise Control Kicks Off

Sometimes when I have my cruise control on it will kick off by itself at any speed. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

I have the same car, however I have not experience it yet

You might want to try one of the following

Inspect for proper operation of brake lamps.
Inspect throttle linkage for mechanical binding which could cause the system to malfunction.
Inspect cruise control cable adjustment, should have minimum slack.
Inspect for stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes
EMI on the speed sensor signal circuit may cause erratic cruise control operation.Brake Lamp Switch at the brake pedal also supplies input to the cruise control module. So we would want to check that the swithc and/or wire connection is not causing a possible loose and/or short circuit to the cruise control module.

Also I reccomend check for good electrical connections at the cruise control module to make sure the wires on the connector are tight and that the connector when connected to module is also tight.

In a nutshell, the cruise control module is electronically controlled by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module).
