My 1993 camry V6 started to leak power steering fluid last year. It leaks severely in winter. I have to add the fluid every day. In summer, almost no leak, however. Where could be the problem, pump itself or some tubes or other? Is that expensive to fix? Thank you!

The leak could be anywhere. You need to clean it up and go over everything in detail. Pay special attention to the PS pressure hose where the rubber attaches to the metal fittings. That is often the culprit.

Might be something as simple as torquing the fittings on the pressure hose.

These are usually the pressure lines. Just clean them up and then keep an eye on it for moisture. It leaks worse in the winter because the oil thins in the cold and swells in the heat. You should replace it as soon as you can. Your wasting money by dumping power steering fluid on the floor and you'll probably spend more money in the long run. Good luck.

Gen 3 ('92 to '96) Camrys use DEXRON ATF fluid in the power steering system. If it is a small leak then you might try some ATF with stop leak.

If the leak continues, then use engine degreaser and power wash off the leaked out ATF fluid and staining. Fill it up and drive it for a day. Then get a good look on where it may be coming from. Try to find the highest point where you see it, since gravity will make it run and drop onto components below the leak site.

FWIW, and I'm not sure how or when I changed it by accident, but I have been using power steering fluid in my '92s system. I had a significant leak before but was stopped after using a "stop leak" version. Yes, it's a band-aid, but at least I don't wake up to a puddle on my garage floor.
