Dropping fuel tank and changing fuel level sensor

Hi again.
After I drop the tank and pull the fuel pump to get at the fuel level sensor, do I need to replace anything like a sock filter or an o-ring to reinstall the fuel pump?

Also, will I need any special tools to do this? I have the sensor, do I need any other parts before I start this?

I would replace the filter and the "O" ring to ensure that I won't have to go back inside a second time just for that. You don't need any special tool, but a little white grease on the "O" ring will sure make it easier when trying to install the lock ring. Good luck.

Be careful when dropping the tank you don't break one of the lines. They are plastic and will break if to much pressure is placed on them. If you break one, you will have to replace the whole assembly and they are not cheap....so be careful and take your time when it comes to this step

If the straps look even a little rusted, go ahead a get new ones. The same for the lock ring on the top of the tank. It's worth it to keep from delaying you project 2 days like mine. Check the plug on the fuel pump/sensor while there to make sure it's not falling apart. Ya know, the whole, "while you're in there" scenario.

Hey, old thread, but I finally dropped the tank and fixed the sensor. Wasn't so bad, just a lot of back and forth.

Problem is that, just like I was warned, I snapped one of the white connector ends. It was a small piece, was able to sand it and just shorten it down. Drove it around, works fine.

My next question, does anyone know where to locate a replacement fuel pump cap (thingy? Don't know what they call that top piece). As far as I can tell, the sensors snap out fairly easy and the spring/shocks on it are possible to remove and transplant.

I'd like to get a new or used cap and have it on standby. Better find a $15 piece now and have it there than have it ever fail on me and pay $320 for a new delphi fuel pump.

Or maybe I'll have to go under there again for something and can change it out to be sure it won't ever come loose.

You might check the auto recycling yards....aught to be cheap.
