I was going to install my oil pump and housing back on the engine and I noticed a small round spring on the crank shaft just dangling there. I'm sure it has a purpose, but where does it belong? I haven't seen it referenced in my manuals...

If you took the oil pump apart, it is possible it is the pressure-relief spring for the oil pump.

By "round spring", do you mean a coil spring - like in a ball point pen?

maybe goes to timing belt tensioner......if one end is connected right the other connection should'nt be hard to locate ie...the size of spring

I figured it out- it was the garter spring that goes around the inside lip of the crank shaft seal on the oil pump housing....
