97 blazer timing

I had to changed the valve lifter because it was making a knocking noise. I took off the distributor, and later took off the fan. Accidently, i turned the camshaft pulley a little, now the rotor does not want to point to the same direction as the mark i made before taking out the distributor. It either wants to move a notch right or a notch left. I'm guessing that there are only 6 notches total like around a clock since there are only 6 cylinders, understand me? So i left the rotor point a new direction, 1 notch right since i moved the camshaft a little. Truck doesn't want to start, so i figured of lifting the distributor a little just enough to rotate the distributor 1 notch more. The truck sounds better, almost wants to start, yet still not lined timed correctly. How can i fix this? I heard serval ways. If i move lift the distributor a little again, and move the rotor one notch more, then put it back together, wouldn't i get the right time after turning the rotor 6 times atmost?? Or would it easier to lined up the notch on the pulley to the some sort of degree measurment on the chain plate then moving the rotor to fire cylinder #1, which has the rotor pointing towards the #6 on the plastic distributor cap?HOw much degrees should the pulley be anway, 5 or 6 degrees?? I dont want to have to take out a spark plug #1 since its right next to the steering wheel barrel, every uncomfortable. OH, and do i have to remove some wire plug under the passenger lower side panel for the computer?? Accoring the information on the fan plastic protector, GM states that the ignition timing and idleing speed are set automatically, and not to try to adjust them, however, it's not automatically adjusting in my truck, so i think there should be a way? CAN YOU HELP ME? I HAVE A 97 CHEVY S10 BLAZER 4.3L 4X4 MANUAL, VIN "W"..WHAT ELSE CAN HELP YOU?

sounds like you need to start over again and reset the engine at TDC (Top Dead Center)

here's a link to my how-to post for my 97 vin W 4X4

and yes, after resetting at TDC, timing is automatic. You'll need to remove your drivers side tire and get at the no. 1 spark plug through the wheel well.

good luck

I saw the two marks which need to be lined up to a plastic line marker and an "M" shaped marker towards the 1 O'Clock or so. However, there is something I don't understand. First put the two line markers which are on the metal wheel to line up straight, one about at 1'clock w/ the M-platic shape, and the other its about at 4'olock like you said. Then take off the #1 piston and install a skrew driver or finger to feel the piston being on TDC, but to do this, i have to again, turn the pulley about 1'inch turn, but wouldn't that make the two markers be out of line again?? or the markers do not really matter as long as the piston is on TDC and the rotor pointing at the "marker 6" instead of 8 since its a V6 engine.
