Gas octane for the 3.5L

Another question:

Can the 300M special run on 87 octane gas?

I read that for the regular 300M, 89 octane is recommend and 91 is recommended for the special. Recommended does not mean mandatory.

Since all 300 have the same engine and also share the same Concorde base, does Chrysler recoomends better octane to get to the advertised perfomance and if lower octane is used performance as not as good?

In short is the recommendation to avoid mechanical isues or is it to optimize performance?

I use 87 in my 3.2L concorde and never had issues.

It will run on 87 but the preformance will be better on the higher.

Taillight is correct. Mechanical issues are not involved here, it is strictly for performance.
