Have a 98 jimmy that has 210000 miles on it. Put a new cam sensor in it and now the tach quit. Any suggestions?

Is engine running good with no codes?
Why was crank sensor replaced?
Did you use a good brand sensor or el cheapo?
Anything else quit?
Speedo and gauges work good?
Check fuse?

Is the engine running good with no codes?

Didn't check any codes..... ....The SES light has been on since around 60000 miles. Apparently there is a evaporative canister valve that needs to be replaced and I haven't changed it yet. So I'm not sure if any new codes have been registered.

Why was the cam sensor replaced?

The cam sensor was replaced because I could not get the engine started at all. It slowly kept getting worse......randomly starting very hard at times...... and other times starting great. It would only randomly start hard if the engine was cold.....never when it was hot. I had this cam sensor problem before..... but not with these exact symptoms..... so to check if it was the cam sensor, I placed a hair dryer on the distributor for about 45 minutes to heat the cam sensor up. Soon as I did that it started right up. That's how I knew it was the cam sensor. Now it starts fine every time with the new cam sensor.

Good brand sensor?

Used the el cheapo model $27....... because I plan on replacing this vehicle within the next few months.
Anything else quit?

Nothing else quit. But I may want to add that I did crank the engine over excessively at times with a battery charger attached. This may have contributed to the gauge not working?

Speedo and gauges work good?

Speedo and gauges work.....except gas gauge which didn't work before.

Check fuse?

Is there a seperate fuse for just the tach?

Usually the tach/speedo/trans/and a couple of gauges are on the transmission fuse.
But go over all fuses and check for 12 volts on both sides.

I would get it on a good scaqnner and see if the engine scanner is reading a engine RPM.
Also look for all check for all codes.
Clear all codes and do a battery disconnect.
Post back codes and if scanner is reading RPM.
Good luck
