I've got a 2000 Windstar that now has a humming sound coming from the front end somewhere (I think anyway). The faster I drive the more high pitched the sound becomes but it goes away when I turn to the right. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?

I'd start at the tire and have a good look. As you say, the hum increases in pitch as you speed up. Possibly worn tire, inproper inflation, alignment problem where the tire is scrubbing. This also goes with the R turn decrease although how fast are you going when you turn? Have you done any other work? Did you talk to the other driver(s)? My wife is constantly informing me after lots of diagnosing about "something she forgot to mention".

I'll have my husband check the tire out although they should be good because they've only been used for two winters (we change them between winter and summer tires). I'm normally going approximately 90 km/hr when I can notice the hum go away while turing right, ex. driving around a right-hand curve in the road.

No other work has been done except for changing the seasonal tires.

My husband and two others have also noticed this happen and it was suggeted that it might be the CV joint/universal?

Hi
Sounds more like classic wheel bearing noise in that you can vary the sound by "unloading" the right bearing during a right turn. That is not a definitive diagnosis mind you, but I would focus there too. Might be hard to pinpoint it in that older cars would typically get loose at the bearing too. You can jack up the right front and check for play at the wheel by pulling/pushing at 9 and 3, and then 12 and 6. As I recall movement caused by pulling/pushing at 12/6 points more toward the wheel bearing.
On your vintage Windstar the wheel bearings/hubs bolt in, but you do need to disconnect a few suspension components and push out the CV shaft to get to it. The part runs about $60-$80. Here is a photo;

Good luck
