i tried to search for this problem, but i have no idea what its called so sorry if its a repost... in my 95 talon, about 50% of the time my car will not let me accelerate past 3000 rpms with the clutch engaged or disengaged... the needle just bounces around 3000... sometimes if i shut the car off and back on it wont do it, then other times it does do it... im still a beginner and trying to learn but id really like some input before possibly getting raped by another mechanic :banghead:

thats what it sounds like. Which means it must be some sort of ecu cut happening. (LIke a stutterbox) I'm not saying it has to be the ecu though. You could be getting a weak signal somewhere causing the fuel to cut when a certain voltage is reached. My friend had something similar I'm going to ask him what it was on his 300M that caused it. (Damn Chrysler)

Im willing to bet you have a real bad boost leak somwhere.. do a boost leak test.. ..also could be your mas airflow sensor....just for shits and giggles try unplugging it and rev it up slowly in nuetral .. see if it will let u get past the 3k..

Def. sounds like the ecu to me. Although it could be bad distributor, jsut a suggestion. The MAF would probably throw a light on.....um....relays and fuses?

His car isin't turbo and doesn't have a MAF sensor. It has a MAP sensor on the manifold. It doesn't have a distributor either, electronic ignition.

This is a very odd problem, I would think it would either have to be a sensor bad or the ECU. If a sensor was bad it should throw a CEL. Do you know anyone that might have an ECU you could swap with just to rule that out?

I meant the ignition box.

Fuck me! LOL, yeah the ignition coil should be checked. I would also check to see if you might have some oil in your spark plugs.
