my 98 neon was running great until friday it just shut off and wont even try to start. i think i have spark i was a lone so it was hard to see it but i think i heard the spark jumping when i pulled the wire off. im thinking fuel pump. i dont think i hear the hum at start up anymore. i see a lot of talk about crankshaft pos sensors but it seems like in those cases they try to start mine just cranks with no attempt to fire. should i just check the fuel preesure or the cps. oh yea since i bought this car it has been hard to start once the tank is below like 1/4 full. idk if this is related or not. when it died it just shut off though it didnt stumble and die it just cut out competely. it shows codes 12 21 32 55 but it was shoeing these b4 . my egr was bad in january so i just disconnected it and its ran fine . any help is appreciated in advance

Check the fuel pump relay and fuse if you can't hear the fuel pump whirring. You can swap the fuel pump and horn relay to see if it works.

i guess im just wondering if a fuel pump problem would go out without a warning or if the car would sputter and run rough before it died. like i said my neon just shut off. no warning at all

Ya know I had a problem like that and it turned out to be just the fuel pump ground wire.It would run file then shut off like some one reached up and turned the key.The wire is located on the left side of the trunk as you are looking at from the rear.Inside the trunk on the wheel well.I hope that helps if not then dont get mad at me.That solved my problem in that particular case.Good luck
