??? Electrical / Starter problems sockerkid 04-19-2008, 07:52 PM
i got up to go to work the other day and when i turned the key i just got a loud very rapid clicking noise. i assumed it was the starter, i have replaced it once a year for the past four years. after replacing the starter i get just a single click and then everything goes dead. if i unhook the battery and then hook it back up all the electrical will work again until i turn the key and i get one click and everything goes dead again. i am just a woodworker, any help?? thanks wwwildman 04-20-2008, 09:57 AM starter relay/solenoid or weak battery/corroded wires Johnny Mullet 04-20-2008, 08:52 PM Sounds like the battery to me? usar89b 04-21-2008, 12:19 AM I would start by replacing the battery cables. My assistant at work keeps having the same problem with his 95 aerostar, but I cant convince him to buy new battery cables. You make us tree carcass carvers sound like we don't know anything about trucks. Have a little pride in what you do! Just kidding... :smokin: FNA 04-21-2008, 12:26 PM Dead battery or bad connections - that's what clicking indicates. Clicking almost never means relay or solenoid because what you are hearing is the solenoid functioning with power provided by the relay. "I would start by replacing the battery cables." Never "start" by replacing anything. Start by testing components to see if they are good. In this case, start by testing battery. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
