well i finally figured this out....it is synchromesh fluid, this is a 5-30wt oil with yellow metal corrosion inhibitors....nobody has it in stock because it is only available at dealer for over 10.oo a quart and 2 quarts are required....
so from what i learned at auto parts store dextron III is used, and what was in this manual transmission was dextron III so this i then used after draining out the old dextron fluid and it appears to shift perfectly now...
the fluid was a very dark red with metal dust on plugs magnets..
i also found that this should be replaced every 50,000mi....

Glad you got it figured out j cAT .
I looked in Mitchell and they give 3 different 5 speed transmissuions.
T5 = dexron fluid.
5LM60 = 80/90 wt. grear oil.
NV4500 GM Manual trans. synthetic fluid.
The dexron 11-111 fluid is getting hard to find.
A lot of parts places push the multi purpose fluid which is a fit all.
But sometimes is not good.
Gm says to change over to dexron -4 full synthetic.
But in manual transmissions it does not do good.
There is a tsb someplace about it.

thanks for that added info...also yes you are correct on the pushing of the full synthetic fluid ...when i asked where the gm spec number was on the container that stated it complied with the vehicle requirements he could not explain...
i stopped using dextron III about 8years ago and because i bought a case of it i had 4quarts left over i never thought i would ever use them..
i found a dealer that has the synchromesh fluid it is now 15.oo a quart! next week i guess i'll help my son r/r the dextron III with the correct fluid..
