hey. I own a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L. I have had a problem now since a couple of weeks. my car was layed up for 4 months while i was working. I came home, and started it and she idled fine, but once i tryed to drive there was no power. I thought that maybe the ignition coil might of got damp while she was sitting in the cold for a while. I took it off and dryed it but it back on and she worked. I have bought new plugs and wires after that. She worked good for about a week then driving the other day i started to feel her missin and jerking. she would only do it a few times and then be fine for a while and then etc. I came home and parked her over night. went to start the car the next day now she won't work at all. I changed one side of the ignition coil, it had a crack. checked for fire and that was great. I changed my plugs back to the ones i took out thought maybe it killed one of the plugs when she was missin and jerky, not's not the problem. When I start the car she idles good, you wouldn't no there's anything wrong till you put the car in drive of reverse, she the dye's down and jerks slightly. When I go to drive i can accelerate wide open and all she does is bog, I'm down to about 40 km on the any hill. I have no idea what it might be. any idea's would be great. Thanks

hey i just found out something else. I have repaced to of my igntion coils. My outside one towards the front is not getting any fire on those plugs. what could be wrong with this, I tryed switchin the coils around no difference. I am guessing it might be those to plugs that the coils plug into? thanks

it could be that set of coils but doubt it if you have switched them around . That is no spark at end of plug wires. I would be lookin at the ignition module and the zone can check that for you...Also you have not said any thing about the coil tower , or does this car have the coil tower or coil on plug. keep tryin and :grinyes:

Hey mate..... Drink a tinny of Fosters, put something on the barbie, and chill out till the missue gets back from the Bottle Shop with a slab !
1. Change that fuel filter. Always a good idea.
2. If the car sat for 4 months...the petro could be contaminated with water...Get another can of Fosters and two cans of petro dry. Drink the Fosters and put the petro dry in the tank. Don't mix this up...hate to waste that tinny !!
Top the tanks off with new petro from the Servo!!!
3. Since you changed coils around and wires...make sure !!! you have not switched the wires around and go them crossed.
4. Just make sure the Spark Plug are not fouled and they are gapped correctly. A little fine sand paper and carb cleaner will do the trick.
3. Did you get a check engine light on the dash ???
4. AutoZone in Sydney...mmmm. I don't think so bloke......but find a Crow Eater that can read the code with a reader.

If you want to check the coil...use this method.
TESTING
2.2L (VIN 4) Engine

Remove the ignition coil(s).

Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the primary terminals on the underside of the coil. The resistance should be 0.50-0.90 ohms.

Check the resistance between the secondary terminals. It should be 5000-10,000 ohms.

If the coil failed either test, replace the coil.

Like Kirkwood said.....Check the Ignition Module. next ...it is under the coil.

Cheers .....Have another Fosters !!!Mate !!

JzJzz....and the Man from Down Under....time to get rotten !!!
