1991 s-10 2.8L v-6 no a/c standard transmissionI have replaced the thermostat, and the radiator cap. The radiator has been flushed, and the water pump said to be working fine, according the the attendant.
I find when it gets above 60 degrees outside, the temperature go above 210 while on the highway for any length of time. (My drive 1s 50 miles to work)
So, someone suggested the fan clutch may need replaced.
How would you know by looking, and do you need to remove the belt to replace it.

Has the thermostat been check or replaced?
On the road at speeds over 40 mph the fan does not cool.
The rad depends on forced road air to flow threw the rad to cool it.
First check rad for being stopped up and make sure it is getting a good air flow froom front threw rad.
Check for air blockage like plastic dirt mud or carboard or screen wire.

If rad is good and clean and no air flow blockage and thero stat is good you might have a chemical block check done for head gasket leakage.

To check fan clutch at idle when tempt gets over 200-210 you should hear and feel the fan kick into high gear.
At adle or sitting still at a stop light is when the fan does it cooling.
On the road you can take a fan off and the engine will still cool from road road air.
Good Luck MT

Thanks for the help. I looked through the front grill and the entire lower part of the radiator has the mesh coil area missing. It just has the metal horizontal bars and you can see right through
Guess I better get one ordered and installed.
Thank again

Oh my that is strange.

Yes I would replace it.
I would say the mesh does some of the cooling.

Also make sure the thermo stat is good.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
