Jimmy: Takes 5+ minutes to go into drive

I have a 2000 Jimmy (SLT). The vehicle starts fine but on cold days (and randomly on warm days)but it will take between 4-10 minutes to go into drive (automatic transmission). I will hear a little click when it is ready to go into drive (the lock disengaging on the shifter likely).

I have yet to get it diagnosed and get codes. Somebody I work with told me it is likely transmission fluid and to check it when running hot. I did this and it looks normal.

Anybody have any experience with this? It may still be the fluid as I am a total car noob.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here is some other information that might be important:
I did some searching on these forums for a few other various problems my truck has had..one that stopped the same time this problem started..I used to have a problem getting my key to turn all the way to off and remove it. Sometimes it would take a few minutes to click and unlock to remove the key sometimes it would take hours (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t753668-97_jimmy_tranny_in_limp_mode___key_stuck___ses_lig ht.html (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=744170)

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=744170) around the same time my service 4wd light came on. The service 4wd light has remained on but my key not fully turning off replaced itself with the taking time to go into drive problem.

Any of you car gurus see a correlation? I'll be taking my car to the shop ina few days to get some wheel bearings replaced so any info regarding this problem would be great so I can kill two birds with one stone and not spend too much on an over-bloated problem.

First step is to check it out.
Like you said you have not had it checked out yet.
When you take it in have them also check the engine /transmission running on a good engine /transmission capable scanner.
If any codes post back code no.
