Where to buy tires

I need to buy tires for my 98 Lesabre Custom and am looking for a discount. Is there a place anyone reccommends to get tires at a good price? Perhaps under $300 installed for 4 tires. There used to be a time when you bought tires at a store and they would mount and balance them at no charge. Is there anyplace left that still does this?

You could try tirerack.com. I've bought tires through them over the past few years and have received some good prices. Even with shipping they still come out cheaper than many of the local stores around me. They have installers in most areas that can put the tires on your rims and then on your car, or you can call around and see who has the best price for mounting, balancing and installation.
Another possible source for low cost tires and installation is warehouse clubs like Sam's or BJ's. They have some good prices and tend to charge less on the mounting and balancing. I've bought tires from both of these places over the past 20 years and never had an issue. You do need to be a member to get the best price however.

Ok, while searching for tire reviews for the Dean Alpha 365 tires i had come across this website showing a recall on tires procuced in 2005: http://www.tirereview.com/default.aspx?type=wm&module=4&id=2&state=DisplayFullText&item=3611

Is it possible that Strauss Auto would still be selling those tires or do you think that the model tire was improved after 2005?

I sure hope that they wouldn't be selling any recalled tires. They probably did improve them after the recall to remove the contaminant that was causing the problem that initiated the recall in the first place. What bothers me is the last line of the story,"Specific DOT numbers or lots for the tires were not available." That means you couldn't physically check the numbers on the tires before installation to see if they fall into the recalled group. I would think though that the ones being sold today are post- recall and the issue was taken care of. Sounds like a decent deal you outlined in an above post.

Ok, I'm having new tires put on my car as i'm writing this. I've changed my mind and went for a better set of tires. I realize that i was trying to save money but then thought to myself that an economy tire will only perform so well on such a fine piece of machinery.:nono: The Dean tires i was going to have installed only had a treadwear warrenty of 40,000 miles which would only be good for 2&1/2 years . Then there is the question of the recall in which i posted in an earlier post. So.....Being that i use my car for work and do alot of combined highway & city driving i thought that the safety of a good solid tire would be the best invetment.:smokin:

I went for the Goodyear Assurance Comfortred . With an 80,000 mile warrenty and many good reviews i can drive with confidence.

I'l let you all know how well the tire performs with a follow up.

Are you having them installed white out or black out?

As much as i wanted white walls they were not available in Goodyear assurance comfortred.

Now that i got to drive the car all day for work today i am reporting on how the ride was. The ride was supurb. The extra layer of rubber between the belts and treads absorbed all of the minor road imperfections such as cracks in the road and small bumps. The ride was noticably cushiony and the tires are super quiet. I'm glad i went with this tire. :smokin:

I highly recommend this tire to Buick drivers whom enjoy a cushy ride.

Although Lesabres come with black out, in the picture yours looks so nice with white.

One of the most important things of what characteristics a tire has, is how much air is in them. Most people wrongly go by what it says on the side of the tire (That's not what your "supposed" to put in the tire, it's the "max pressure" for that tire).

Others go by what the manufacture suggests for the car, listed on the side of the door (smoothest ride, not the best tire wear).

I go by my own custom level that I have come to like after tests I did. Having a dad in the tire business for over 45 years helped me out.

Just curious, how much air did you go with?

Chris.

Thanks for the compliment. I'll have to take a picture of my car with the new black wall tires. I'm still having a hard time adjusting to my car having black walls as it had white walls since i owned it. I'm not 100% sure if the garage put 30 or 32 psi in my tires. They seem like they are under inflated as i can push the sidewall in with my thumb. I'm going to have to further look into this PSI thing. Thanks for helping me out

I'll bet raised white letter tires would also look good on these cars:naughty: . I put some Dunlop RWL on my Roadmaster and it dresses it up a bit. My '90 Lesabre has the blackwalls out and it looks okay just as long as the tires are clean. What drives me nuts is those people who drive down the road with the blue protective coating still on their whitewalls :banghead:. It's like they're saying, "Hey look at me and my new tires!" You'd think the tire installer would take a few extra minutes and remove it before the vehicle leaves the shop. If you leave that stuff on the tire too long it makes it more difficult to remove.
