About 3 weeks ago, my odometer started to flicker and go out; when the vehicle was stopped and cooled down it would come back on; all of the gauges worked. A couple of days ago, the odometer stopped increasing with mileage; and was still flickering on and off. Today, while driving, the whole cluster went stupid! The tachometer went all the way to the right, speedometer went to 40mph (I was doing 60 at the time) highbeam indicator light came on, service 4x4 light flickered (it's a 4x2), check gauges light, damn near all of them went on and off at some time for about 20 seconds; then all everything except the odometer went back to normal. During this episode, the truck drove normally at highway speed.

Any insights or help greatly appreciated!!

Just wanted to post a follow-up to this.
Found two problems. First; when I had the radio replaced, it would appear that the installer drove a screw through a mounting bracket into part of the wiring harnes that goes up to the connector on top of the instrument cluster. I fixed the wires, and haven't had the problem with the idiot lights or guages since. Second; and I think this was a seperate problem, is the odometer/trip/reset button switch mounted inside the instrument cluster, I used electronics spray cleaner and a lot of black crude came out of it for such a small switch. I haven't had any problems with the odometer flickering or going out completely. Also, the odometer has resumed counting miles driven.
Hope this helps someone else...:)
