1998 Cavalier My issue's started all at once. Turn signals, dome light, and RR Defogger all either work, or don't work. When they work, everything in and out of the car works fine. But when one stops working, all 3 quit working. These are the only 3 things. Fuses are all fine, and before I start looking for a short, I wanted to ask if this problem has happened to anyone else that might be able to help me out...appreciate any advice..

Ok, well I gave it a couple days, and I see noone has posted anything happening with their Cavalier close to what I am experiencing, so I guess I'm right where I was 2 days ago...I guess I better climb under the dash, get my volt/ohm meter out, and start checking each and every wire when the problem is occuring until I find the short.

If you don't have a manual with a wiring diagram...Go to AutoZone.com.
I have seen a wiring diagrams for your car.
Look to see if there is a commom +12v wire or a commom ground for all three items.
I have never had this my 95 Cav.

Good Luck... JzJzz

I am back again. I haven't driven my 98 Cavalier much since this problem started last year, especially when I added brake lights to the list of not working. So now brake lights, turn signals, RR defogger do not work at all, and the ABS is always lit on the dash. I have replaced the combo switch for turn signals/hazards, and the ignition switch, but neither has helped. Bulbs are good, fuses good, and havent found any shorts or faulty grounds.. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Hey Mate...don't give up....Look for corroded connections. I see you live up north where salt is used on the roads. I worked on a Ford Bronco from NY that had a wiring problem. I had to start at the battery and work backward cleaning, sanding all connections. The problem was in the fuse block.

Take a 12vdc Test light and check both sides of the fuse in the block. Just because the fuse it good, does not mean it is making a good connection.

Did you get the wiring diagram ??? If not sure what to look for ask for help from a friend that understand electricity. Haynes Manual also have wiring diagrams.

Good Luck Mate.... JzJzz..... Helmuth is MIA in Cambodia 1969!!! I use his name in rememberance of my friend. He was a good Lad !!! RIP... Time to visit the pub !!!
