The trans will not downshift when the gas pedal is depressed for accelleration. Is there a direction to look for this issue?

Thanks

It should be scanned with a trans function scanner, this is controlled by engine load, speed and tps inputs to the pcm, which then activates the various trans solenoids to cause the downshift.

Make sure you check the fluid..... hot, car level and running idle. I would also look for lose or cracks manifold/vacuum hose.

The fluids are good. This is an electronic function isn't it?

Thanks

Correct, vacuum is not an issue here regarding downshifting to 3rd, the pcm reads engine load, car speed and throttle opening, then commands the solenoids as required.

So, it would appear that the kickdown solenoids are not functioning or are not getting the message. Would this be caused by a malfuctioning ABS/TCS unit?

Our 97 PA will not idle corrcetly from time to time. Sometimes it will settle at around 1500 rpm's and as high as around 2500 ... this is a bit unsettleing when you are slowing for a stop sign or similiar. If the engine is shut off and restarted right away it idles down correctly. I have popped the hood when this happens and tried snapping the throttle quickly but it is already at the idle stop but the engine is roaring. Again, this is hit and miss as to when it will happen.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
