I guess I'm among the luck ones.

I've had my truck 11.5 years now.
Replaced the Dex-Cool at 5 years old, when the thermostat crapped.
By that time, Dex-Cool had been reformulated, and it stated on the container that it was compatable with all other types of Anti-Freeze.
Replaced the Dex-Cool again last fall, and just for the heck of it, put another new thermostat in it. The first replacement was a 165 degree unit, the latest one is a 190.

Luckie maybe but also smart to service/change it.

I have never saw any actual dex cool damage to a engine rad or heater core or hoses or gaskets outside of bearing damage when it its into the engine oil after a gasket leak.

Most of the so called dex cool problems are just bad GM type plastic shell gaskets or leaving the stuff in there to long.

Any coolant needs serviced ever so often.

Dex cool and GM did tell a big fib on the 7 year 150K lasting end .
But they are paying big time for it now.

I've never seen 7 years listed, only 5.
Actually, Dex Cool can last as long if properly maintained. That includes keeping air infiltration out of the cooling system, including making sure the level in the overflow tank is at the correct level, and if your vehicle has a radiator cap, that it is functioning properly. And along with bleeding any air out of your cooling system after any repair which could allow air in there such as a thermostat or water pump replacement.
Using the recommended water is also a big thing in the lifespan of DexCool. Distilled water is recommended and many manufactures of coolants are now emphasizing that on their containers. If another coolant is allowed to mix with Dex Cool, such as the old ethylene glycol (green coolant),it can contaminate and that effectively shortens it's life to only 2 years/30,000 miles. Some customers I've seen see that 5 yr/150K label and think , "Oh there's nothing more I need to do for that length of time." when the opposite is true. You should be just as vigilant with Dex Cool as you would any other coolant on the market.

Yes 5 years or 150K. On the GM dex cool coolant.
At one time I thought I was getting some from parts place that was bumbed to 7 years.
And 10-4 on proper care and service.
