ATF - motor oil

I have been told by several people that replacing one quart of motor oil with a quart of ATF every other oil change will provide a cleaning action and will keep the inside of the motor cleaner than oil alone.

Has anyone ever tried this? Are there any hazards associated with this procedure?

hazzards IMO ,if it`s a higher mileage car you run the risk of getting piston rings to clean resulting in excessive oil use. meaning it will start to burn oil.

If you properly maintain your vehicle and use quality lubricants you don't need to worry about the validity of these hand me down remedies. If you had a sludged up engine because someone didn't maintain it properly, I wouldn't want the sludge broken loose and have that crap going through the bearings and machined surfaces of my engine. The oil filter would not catch it all! As for getting the piston rings too clean, it's dirty, carboned up, stuck piston rings that give you trouble.

I have heard and seen the results using a full synthtic oil to clean the internals out.also have heard many other rumours about adding synthtics to high mileage cars. like sluge build up on seals letting go and causing leaks .But IMO a clean motor runs cooler , synthtics are better for wear reduction , better fuel mpg's eg..less friction ,motor last longer .First you should think about a motor flush with new oil filter then add flush .Then add syntheyic and change at regular interval 3,000 miles then 5,000 then push it to 7,000 miles per oil change thus cleaning motor out. This is where I am at with my 96 grand am 156,000 miles.I have not seen oil leaks and have not noticed any great fuel increase but I dont change oil every six weeks or so any more ethier
I have tried an oil prduct from ams oil just put in my 95 grand jeep 25,000 miles between oil changes .yea we will see the start price was 200.00 for two oil changes 50,000miles and change oil 2 times for time and money savings
It claims to be very superior to penzoil synthetics which is the better on the market IMO and see charts This is not a plug just see http://www.amsoil.com
