Bad case of clutch slip - 97 Eclipse

I have 97 Eclipse with a bad case of clutch slip. It started a while ago where the clutch would slip once in a while and suddently got worse where I could barely drive the car.

I got the clutch, slave and master cylinders replaced a month ago. The clutch still slips! I have made half a dozen trips to 2 different mechanics. They tried different things - bleeding the master cylinder, tightening it etc. Every time the master cylinder is bled, the car runs fine for about 10 miles, then it's back to it slipping ways.

Please help!

The hydrolic system has nothing to do with the clutch slipping. Unless the line is pinched not letting the pressure release.

Is the car turbo?

It is non-turbo (GS). If it has nothing to do with hydraulics, why is the clutch okay when the cylinders are bled? If it is not hydraulics, what could it be? Please help!

When the clutch pressure is NOT pressed down, the fingers in the pressure plate apply pressure to the clutch disc which "holds" its in place. All the hydrolic system does is push the fingers down on the pressure plate causing the pressure to be released from the disc. You see, the hydrolic system has nothing to do with the clutch slipping. Some cars have adjustments on the master cylinder but not on the 420a motor.

When you changed the clutch, what all did you replace? Did you get the flywheel resurfaced or the pressure plate?

As you see, I am a newbie... I may not be answering your question correctly, please bear with me.

The mechanic said flywheel was part of the clutch kit so he replaced that as well. So no resurfacing whatsover. He said the flywheel is riveted to the clutch... Does it make sense?

He replaced the clutch kit, slave and master cylinders.

Thanks...

Usually on a non-modular setup clutch kits come with all 3 parts, clutch, flywheel and pressure plate. Also comes with throw out bearing.

Really not sure what the problem could be. How exactly is it slipping?

It slips pretty badly - the car barely moves as I press gas. It picksup speed very very slowly while the engine revs. It doesn't go beyond 40-50 mph. It is pretty much a hazard to drive it.

If I place the car in 5th gear, even at about 10 mph, I can still drive the car. It doesn't stall.

I am totally clueless at this time. Should I take it to a dealer? Would they know better?

I forgot that the 420a has a modular clutch setup. So everything was replaced. Yes I would recommend taking it to the dealer or a better shop. Regardless of what the problem is you have more than likely toasted the new clutch. So the tranny will have to be dropped again to have the clutch replaced again. The mechanics may have fixed the problem but the clutch might have already been messed up by then.

Thanks for the all the information.

Wow! That's bad news for me... Can the clutch go bad so quickly - I drove less than 100 miles on the new clutch.

I spent $1250 on the clutch job already. How much would the dealer charge?

Thanks...

I dont know how much a dealer would charge. It doesn't take long at all for the clutch disc to heat up and glaze over. You just going to have to take it in and let someone inspect the clutch. Depending on how much you slipped it will determine if it needs replacing again.

Sorry to be a bother - but how come it is all fine when the cylinders are bled? Doesn't it indicate that the clutch is okay, and that there is leakage in the hydraulics?
