Timing belt?

How does one know when the timing belt goes? I was driving and poof lost all power all electrical was working but the car just wouldnt start but did turn the accessory belt. is this the timing belt broke?:runaround:

Well timing belts are recommended to be changed around 6 years or 60,000 miles which ever come first, but if the vehicle turns over and no start or trys to start but can that it could be the alternator but it also could be the battery.

From your description the timing belt is indeed broke - hopefully there has been no damage done to the valves but you'll only know this after its pulled apart. You can double check by either removing the valve cover and see if the cam/valves move or remove the sparkplugs and see if there is compression in all 4 cylinders....if there is then it is not the timing belt ....never know your luck! Unless you do your own work I think this will be somewhat costly - worst case scenario is a new head. Ain't good news.
