'00 Bravada Fuel Pump

Wife's bravada would not start this weekend while she was out of town... I drove 2hrs to pick her up and see what the problem was... sure enough, the fuel pump was not making any noise at all when the key is turned and I did not have any fuel coming out of the service port when the key was turned... I think to myself Bad Fuel pump of course... As a last ditch effort in case there is a bad ground or something I hit the tank a few times and wiggle (technical term) the wiring... sure enough, the truck starts right up... I drove it around the block.. shut if off again.. packed her bags up in the truck I drove to pick her up in and I was planning to drive the Bravada back... So I get it and again.. DEAD.. I got out, hit the tank again and Bingo.. she starts right up - I then drove it 2hrs home without a problem.. I went out this morning for work and it started just fine as well..

QUESTION IS: When these fuel pumps go bad do they just tend to DIE or do they start by having problems such as this?? I am wondering if maybe I just have a grounding or wiring issue somewhere - - Don't really want to put a fuel pump in if I don't have to of course...

Also.. what all is located in the black boxes behind the LR wheel that I see fuel lines going into??

Thanks!
Jon

You need to replace it now.
If you have to whack it to fire it up it is on its last leg.
There is a dead spot on the fuel pump motor/armeture.

It may not go the next whack.
They are usually only good for a couple of whacks.
May not have the cats nine lives left.
Drop the tank and replace it only with a AC-Delco/Delphi oem type fuel pump.

Some fuel pumps get low on pressure and some just go dead.
And some a good whack will fire them back up but they are not goingf top live long.
Replace it and be done with it.
Good Luck

I agree with MT on the pump.

The box behind the left rear wheel is the canister where fuel vapors from the fuel tank are stored when the engine is not running. They are purged from the canister, under certain conditions, and burned by the engine when it's running.

Anybody tried one of these yet?

Fuel pump kit for $64.95. Delphi pump, filters and hose to replace the pump into the existing module. There is a 24-step instruction (fairly simple) to change it out.

I did a search and didn’t come up with anything negative...

Carquest does sell Delphi pumps in Carquest's boxes.Carquest did switch to Delphi and did away from Airtex for their fuel pump supplier.Carquest did have problems with their fuel pumps when Airtex was their supplier

Thanks for the info.... one more quick question... My fuel guage stopped working a long time ago... is the fuel guage sending unit and pump all in the same unit by chance?? or do I need to request it seperately as well ...

Thanks again!
JT

BTW... I bought a new Accord yesterday so I have new reliable transportation giving me time to work on the Bravada before driving it much more.. haha

It’s a modular pump. The pump and sending unit are all one assembly. Prices range from around $220 to $350 for the module, that is the way they're normaly sold, that’s why I mentioned the link above.
They also have the fuel sending units at the bottom of that page.

If you can find the part number for the Bravada they have decent prices here for the whole module.
