When you say nothing is working, do you mean that literally? When you switch the ignition to the 'Run' position, do the warning lamps illuminate and do the gauges come to life? Do the headlamps work? Does the horn work? If absolutely nothing is working then it's possible that the 175 amp 'Mega Fuse' is blown.

That's the '97, yes? If so then there appear to be two 175 amp mega fuses - one is shown on the wiring diagram as Mega Fuse 175A (Generator) and the other is shown as Mega Fuse 175A (PDB) - the PDB fuse is the one to check, and that will probably be in a fuse panel in the engine bay.

If it's not the case that absolutely everything is dead, then could you list as many of the dead items as possible, to help in identifying the common factor.

If you have a garage and can park the truck securely overnight then it's probably best left until morning, but if you have to leave it parked on the street and if the mega fuse is blown, then I'd take the mega fuse (generator) and insert it in place of the mega fuse (PDB) and hope it doesn't also blow - then you'd hopefully be able to wind the window up and lock the vehicle securely for the night.

thank you very much for the response i should have said earlier that i checked all fuses and relays earlier and all check good but everything works except for windows both of them door locks mirrors and the door chime which makes me think a short but i havent been able to find a wiring diagram so that i might find a starting place

Ah, I see, so it's pretty much confined to the door circuits eh. If you go to this thread:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=890909

... follow the instructions in the first post, select your year and model and then click on Wiring Diagrams - you'll find Door Locks and Power Distribution are both on the list.

I'm just looking at the wiring diagrams and one thing I notice that those circuits have in common is that they all feed back to the same ground point - ground point 'G203'. The left and right power window motors both use it, as do the left and right door lock motors and the left and right illuminated entry switches - they are routed through different connectors in order to get there but they all arrive at that single ground point. Other circuits use that ground point too, so I think the ground itself will be good, but I'm wondering if some connectors leading to it have been pulled loose or kicked loose. There's no indication of where the ground point is, but I'd follow one of the circuits through the wiring harness and I'd expect to find it in the vehicle interior, possibly bolted to the firewall, under the dash.

If that ground point isn't obviously loose, corroded or disconnected, then I'd choose one circuit and start tracing voltage through it, using a multimeter or a 12V test lamp. I'm not familiar with your vehicle, but from looking at the wiring diagrams I don't see that there would be any need to disturb the door panels right now, because nothing inside there grounds locally - all grounds feed back out of the door through the harness, to ground point G203, so therefore it should be possible to do all voltage testing from the harness and connectors, external to the doors.

If you need any help reading the diagrams, could you let me know which engine size you have - it's giving me a choice of 4.2, 4.6, 5.4, and also is it the plain model or the Super Cab model, and does it have keyless entry. Thanks, and good luck.
