ok i just bought a 1997 4x4 blazer, 2 dr, 2 inch body lift, (poor quality lift), 2 inch lift shackles in the back, 3 inch torsion bar tabs lift, pretty much done cheap, but the 4x4 light comes on when you push the button, 4 low dont come on, and 2 dont light up, but the 4x4 doesnot work. i replaced the little vaccuum part under battery because it was torn, and no change. the heater knob that selects vent doesnt work either, seems how both are vaccum am i missing something? the vacuum canister under battery works so i dont really understand this problem, and if any one near me wants to give it a shot to fix it i have 100$ cash, i dont understand it though and im begiing to get frustrated.... thank you..

Run a search on 4x4 shift problems and also.
Go up into the how to.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=572914

On that one you can ground pin 13 on the diagnostic connector and read codes on the shift buttons.
Post back any codes.

this is for '98 and newer, mine is a 1997.... so what do i do? is there a way you could give step by step directions on how to eliminat each little problem? i think i have vaccum all the way to my diaphram, it does pull the diaphram closed, but nothing happens, thisis crazy and i cannot comprehend what would encourage an engineer to do some crazy set up like this.... where are you from, and are you willing to diagnose it if i cannot?

what do you mean ground pin 13, and post back codes? like put a ground jumper wire to the 13th pin on the obd2 computer hookup, then watch howmany times the shift light flashes or what... im very confused

http://www.troublecodes.net/OBD2/

Jumper pin 13 to ground or ground pin 13 with key off and turn key on and if you have a transfer case codes they will flash code on the shift button lights.
Count the no of flashes and post back.

If no lights check fuses and power to switch and wiring.
Key on lights should come on or blink one time.
And what ever position the transfer case is in the lightr should come on.

For more information or testing on it your best bet is to.
Get a factory repair manual or a All Data online sub.

I use All data almost every day with no problems.
If you have a problem they have great customer support.
Call in or email in.
Or you can always get a factory repair manual.
No pop up or head or weird stuff in a good repair book.:grinyes:

i also have a non functioning heater vent knob, its stuck on defrost, knob moves but no result, which points me to think vacuum, but the vacuum controlled diaphram seems to be shrinking up when the button is pushed.. this is alot more then i bargained for...

yeah, but at 17 years old, truth is i probably wont end up fixing it, then it will go to a mechanic, so itll be 25 extra in the end, because i have a lack of patience for newer cars... shouldnt they be better then old stuff? my 85 s10 with a 400 horse 350 doesnt give me this much trouble and i assembled it at the age of 15....

ok... could someone give me a non technical definition of the system? what happens with the vaccuum diaphragm? what do the buttons do? does the vac pull a cable that shift the front axle setup? what is the system simplified? are electronic parts involved near the differential?

The front axel gets locked in by the front axel actuator.
The push buttons tell the 4W transfer case shifting computer to shift the transfer cas from 2W to 4W drive.
Go threw the all data it tells all about the system.
Good Luck

If you have it narrowed down to a bad ground or ground circuit repair the ground on that circuit.
Clean and check the ground and check with a volt /ohm meter.
A ground wire should not have any voltage on it.
If it does it is not grounded.

what is circuit 13? wher is it? do i ground it to the body or frame? whats the easiest way?

MT-2500

Pin 13 on the OBD11 diagnostic connector.
Pin 13 is wired to the transfer case module.
I posted a picture of in in the link.
It puts the transfer case module in diagnostic mode to get code,
Ground it to any good ground and turn key on.
Good luck

Where are you at on it?
What are you checking?
What says circuit is grounded?

If you are still checking for codes .

my buttons are pretty crappy, the 4 hi looks like someone tried to kick the button into gear, however it is the only one that lights up... but they all dont light up now, and could my problems be right there? is that possible to cause all these problems?

MT-2500

key on all buttons should light up for a bulb check if not
Check the push button switch and bulbs.
